A REVIEW OF HEAT AND MASS EXCHANGING MATERIALS USED IN INDIRECT EVAPORATIVE COOLING (141506)

Abstract : A review; on some of the materials such as metals, fibres, ceramics, zeolites and carbon which are having the capability to be used as the heat and mass transfer medium in indirect evaporative system; is presented. It is found that the shape formation/holding ability, durability, compatibility with water proof coating, contamination risk and cost are important than the thermal properties of the materials such as thermal conductivity and porosity. As a result of the comparative analysis of the above materials; wick (sintered, meshes, grooves and whiskers) are the attained metals (copper or aluminum) are better and adequate as compared to others. Cost wise; aluminum is cheaper than copper hence wick attained aluminum is more suitable for use in these applications.
